We've all been through the painful ordeal of having to manually rename files whether it was the image collection, documents, album collection, or TV series. The list can go on but the purpose of all this is to convince you that there is another more convenient way of resolving all renaming issues. Automation tools are constantly being developed to help save user time and in the case of renaming applications, we have stumbled upon a small utility that does the job quite nicely - WildRename.
With so many other applications available out there, you may wonder why is this better ? WildRename provides a mix of benefits making it aimed at both advanced users looking for a flexible, versatile range of features as well as a novice that just needs a fast and simple to use renaming tool. How it manages that ? With the help of a well thought out graphical interface with all capabilities available right at hand in its main window. And what's more, it is completely Free.
Here is a quick taste of what WildRename can do for you: batch process multiple files to convert their names to either lower / upper case or normalise case, add or remove a choice of string or characters, replace strings of characters, add counters. Add to all this regular expression support and WildRename turns into a most powerful tool.
In terms of installation, WildRename only requires you to extract the contents of the archive and run the executable. Any settins you choose to save will not alter your system registry in any way. It takes very little disk space (1 MB) and runs quite smoothly. Free, fast, lightweight and portable.
For fast accessing, WildRename can be placed in the Send To shell menu. By sending a piece of data to WildRename you will trigger WildRename in the folder containing the file. Same thing goes for folders.
The program's interface is intuitively divided among horizontal panels for creating renaming jobs and specifying their settings, and an explorer like sections for locating the files and folders. Using WildRename becomes very simple: populate the list with renaming commands, specify search options, select the appropriate folder, Go ahead with the renaming or Simulate first.
Jobs represent renaming tasks that if saved may be performed later on against a similar batch of files. This saves considerable time user time meaning you don't have to go through all the settings once again but rather simply open a job list (XML file).
WildRename also provides full documentation so that at each step of the way the user is thoroughly guided through the program's capabilities. It offers quick guides for simple tasks as well as more advanced abilities that grant a higher degree of flexibility to the user.
Should be noted that the application is compatible with most Windows systems including Xp, Vista and 7 and if need reminded, it is free of charge. Give it a try.
