Since even the first editions of Windows, a need for handier and more powerful image viewing capabilities was felt by many users, from beginners to advanced ones. Windows' default image viewing and management features were never good enough, fact proven by the popularity gained by utilities such as Irfan View, XnView or ACDSee. What's truly surprising is that even nowadays this matter haven't been yet completely solved.
Therefore, there's also a need for a more powerful thumbnail previewing solution. Fortunately, there's a little piece of software to solve this need as well. And its name is SageThumbs.
SageThumbs is a powerful shell extension that enables previewing a huge amount of image formats directly in Windows Explorer by using the famous and reliable Pierre-e Gougelet's GFL library (from the well-known XnView's author).
If you would have appreciated a handier, extended thumbnail image view of an Explorer folder, now there's a solution, and is also free - SageThumbs.
SageThumbs enhances the context menu (right-click menu) of an image file in Windows Explorer by adding many handy additional options, including a configurable thumbnail view.
This enhanced context-menu also allows the quick setting of the currently viewed image as the desktop wallpaper, either tiled, stretched or centered. It also allows the user to quickly send either the image or its thumbnail by email, with just one single click.
Moreover, from this handy menu you may enable the quick and effective conversion of the image format to the common BMP, JPG or GIF formats. Usually, the one-click conversion to popular image format is a feature that would have required installing an entire additional application, or maybe even purchasing one. But with the simple little SageThumbs, even image converting is right at hand.
There's still more to come. SageThumbs provides extended info tips and supports no less than 162 image formats (224 extensions) via the powerful GFL Library.
In case you were already using the smart, powerful and popular XnView software, you should know that by installing some specific XnView plugins you may add 26 image formats to the list of SageThumbs supported image formats.
A copy to clipboard function is also available.
