Ear training is quite a vital skill for musicians to acquire and perfect as it enables the identification of elements such as notes, scales, intervals. While this will not ultimately teach you how to read or write music, ear training is essential to becoming a good musician.
RiffMaster is a smart and easy to use audio tool, made up of six different ear training modules with simple and effective functionalities; the purpose of RiffMaster is to help users identify notes, intervals, scales and much more.
The utility has a compact, clean and altogether intuitive graphical user interface; you are not likely to get lost or stop figuring out how to use it.
Here are the components of RiffMaster; note that you can access them via the program menu or associated hotkeys:
- Note Master - basically RiffMaster will play a random note which the user will then try to identify. You can limit the range of the notes by specifying a scale / mode as well as a key signature. Powered by drop down lists like most of the modules.
- Scale Master - plays a user defined scale from a choice of 15 different scale modes along with key signatures, direction and maximum of octaves. Can be setup to auto-repeat with a given delay input in seconds.
- Riff Master - user has to match a sequence of notes. The sequence repeats periodically until the user finds the correct notes being played. If you can not manage to find them, RiffMaster will display them for you. You can specify sequence length, biggest note jump, scale / mode as well as key signature.
- Note Recognition - the user has to identify a single pitch being played. Apply scale / mode limitations and associated key signature or select Chromatic for all. If you can not manage to find the note, RiffMaster will display it for you.
- Interval Recognition - RiffMaster will play a two note interval sequentially or simultaneously while the user will attempt to correctly identify it. You can apply scale / mode and key signature limitations or leave Chromatic for a wider range of random intervals.
- Scale Recognition will play one of 15 different scales and modes, either up, down, or both for the user to match. Limit scales to a smaller set if desired.
RiffMaster features hotkey support with all of its modules being quickly accessible through simple Ctrl + Key commands.
Whether you have mastered ear training or barely learning, RiffMaster can provide an equal amount of challenge. The application is free to use and compatible with all Windows versions.
