LinX is a handy piece of software that was designed to be a simple GUI (Graphical user interface) for the Intel Linpack Benchmark. This lightweight application allows you to select various sizes for the linear equation that will be solved in order to determine the stability of your system in GFlops.
LinX makes other benchmark applications pale in comparison when it comes to CPU testing. This powerful piece of software comes with an impressive testing speed that makes it a great tool for determining the stability of your processors in no time. The process of testing the CPU consists in solving the same system of equations over and over. If the test returns the same results every time, then your processor is stable. If not, then it is pretty clear that your CPU is unstable.
The interface that LinX comes with is simple and intuitive. All you have to do is select the problem size (the ammount of the linear equations) and how many times you want the equations to be solved. The memory will be automatically calculated according to the problem size (and the other way around). Also, there are various settings that you can modify for both Linpack and LinX, but you will need to be careful because changing some of the Linpack settings could damage your system (like setting the process priority level higher than "Normal").
In addition, LinX allows you to make use of various data (like CPU temperature, CPU fan, voltage, etc.) obtained from external applications (Everest and Speedfan) and create graphs during testing. The best thing about using one of the two applications is the fact that you could set a maximum temperature for your CPU. This way, if it reaches a dangerous level, you can set LinX to stop the test and prevent any damage from being done.
