What can KbdEdit do ?

KbdEdit is a smart, useful application with a great functionality; you can fully customize the keyboard layout with control over every aspect of the layout, buttons and associated characters.

While at first glance it may act as a simple mapper, KbdEdit is capable of so much more. Not only can it assign any letter or character to any keyboard key but actually switch between functionality and position: letter, digit, Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Function, multimedia or even arrow key.

Within an intuitive and comprehensive graphic interface, you should have no time learning to use BbdEdit. You will be able to reprogram any button with simple drag and drop actions. If your changes haven't turned out right, simple use the Undo / Redo functions. The layout is divided among tabs between the High level editor, Low level editor, Dead char editor, Preview and Sticker map.

The High level editor performs the most important tasks; it binds Unicode code points (or, less often, dead characters and ligatures) to virtual key / modifier combinations.

The Low-level paves the way for the High level editor; here Unicode characters are assigned to virtual key codes.

Preview is available to help you test out your changes immediately after you have made them.

Key cap stickers allow users to make any physical keyboard accurately match your own custom design.

With KbdEdit you can quickly browse through the Unicode set of characters. From the bottom of the screen you can view the characters that best suit your own language. With drag and drop actions supported, KbdEdit works even better then the Windows built-in tool.

Ligatures are sequence of characters that may be generated within a single stroke. KbdEdit provides the means to create custom ligatures for any language and alphabet. Considering they are assigned to a single key, this will considerably enhance your productivity. From the Dead Character editor you can add full manage dead characters complete with import, export, add, remove and editing features.

Note that any changes you make are placed to the custom layouts created with KbdEdit.

From the Options dialog users can change the keyboard type (big Return Small Backspace, Small Return big Backspace etc), enable or disable various productivity-improving auto complete functions.
