When you download applications from various locations, other than from the developer's website, there is always a slight chance that they have been modified. A simple and efficient way in which you can make sure you get the exact file that you have searched for is by simply comparing its checksum, and the lightweight Hash CrOmp can help you do that.

Hash CrOmp is a small piece of software that simply allows you to compare the hash sum (or checksum) of your downloaded file with its reference (usually found near the download link) so that you could quickly make sure it has not been tampered with. This way, you can successfully protect yourself against any possible threats (like keyloggers or spyware) that might pass by the defenses of your antivirus.

Using the efficient Hash CrOmp is extremely easy. All you have to do is either drag and drop your file to the simple interface or manually browse for it and simply compare it with the reference hash sum. If the checksums are the same, the fields will be colored in green and if not they will turn to red. Simple, efficient and straight to the point.

By default, the handy Hash CrOmp will compare the MD5 checksums, but you are also provided with the possibility to quickly compare MD4, MD2 or SHA1 hash sums simply by selecting them from the drop-down menu. It uses the Hash type into the clipboard to determine which algorithm to use (only between MD5 and SHA-1, because MD2,MD4 and MD5 are the same length).

Other than that, Hash CrOmp comes with a simple and minimalistic interface and you won't have to deal with any menus or settings at all, keeping the job of comparing the hash values as easy as possible. But eventually, users may create a shortcut to hcromp.exe and add the algorythm as argument (ie: C:\folder\hcromp.exe sha1), this way it will calculate the SHA-1 instead of the default MD5 checksum when a file is dropped on this shortcut.
