Protecting your computer by blocking untrusted connections can prove to be quite useful for its overall performance. If your computer is connected to a network, especially one with an Internet connection, then there is a risk that someone will try to access it in order to gain access to your personal information. fireBwall is an easy to use piece of software that can help your prevent that.
By using fireBwall, you can manage all of your incoming and outgoing TCP and UDP connections very easily. After you install and launch this lightweight application, you will be greeted by a simple and intuitive interface. Now, all you have to do is configure your network adapter. By doing that you will be able to choose which ports will be whitelisted. This means that you can decide which ports to unblock (because, by default, all of the incoming new connections are blocked) and select which ones not to notify.
In addition, fireBwall also lets you set ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol that signals and diagnosis errors within the network) filters. This way, you can manage the ICMP traffic and prevent any security issues. For example, you can add type 8 and code 0 in order to filter the echo request (used to ping) and type 0 and code 0 for echo response.
All in all, fireBwall is an easy to use piece of software that was designed to help you decide which ports to block and which ones to allow in order to improve the security of your system.
