Looking to install your motherboard, graphics drivers after a fresh Windows install but you've completely misplaced your CDs and forgot your hardware specs ? Or perhaps you'd like to overcloak your CPU and you need some vital data or overcloak validation ? What you may need is CPU-Z, a wonderful little application with some cool and informative features.
Standing at just 1 MB, CPU-Z is a small application that provides a great deal of information related to your hardware components in a lightweight and comprehensive design. The utility is widely used and hailed for its accuracy, performance and portability.
CPU-Z extracts details about your PC hardware and displays it in a tab powered interface divided among CPU, Caches, Mainboard, Memory, SPD and Graphics details.
The CPU tab shows basic to extended data including name, code name, max TDP, package, technology, core voltage, specification, family, ext. family, model, ext. model, stepping, revision, instructions. For multiple cores it displays speed, multiplier, bus speed and rated FSB.
Cache memory data is available for L1 D, L1 I, L2 type cache. This high speed memory facilitates the transmission of instructions between the CPU and RAM.
For your installed motherboard, CPU-Z displays manufacturer details such as model, chipset, southbridge, LPCIOL (Low Pin Count I/O) as well as BIOS - brand, version and date.
CPU-Z extracts data like type, channels, size and various timings specifications.
Serial presence detect (SPD) is a hardware features that provides access to the memory present in your PC in a coice of slot selection from the drop down list.
The application will also display graphics details like name, technology, available clocks and memory.
Apart from all this, the Windows and DirectX versions are shown.
For your own set of detected hardware details you can save the report in either TXT or HTTML output. By using the CPU-Z validation you can upload your own results into an online database.
Users can configure CPU-Z via the cpuz.ini file. Set parameters how you see fit to change the Font, size, color, the maximum of PCI bus to scan, disables the DMI, PCI information and more.
With the help of function keys (F5, F6, F7, F9), you can take a screenshot, copy the current page to the clipboard, save the validation CVF file, switch between CPU clock computation methods.
CPU-Z is available in installation and portable versions for both 32 and 64 bit systems. It supports a generous range of CPUs (Intel, AMD, VIA, Transmeta), chipsets (Intel, VIA, NVIDIA, ATi, SiS, AMD) and memory.
