Though nowadays we started measuring disk space in terrabytes, the available disk space is still an issue. Sometimes just buying disk storage devices is not the most effective solution. Looking for alternative ways would be more suitable.

One of these alternative ways is storing files in zip archives. Files take less space, you gain more free space. That simple. CompressIT is a small freeware that helps you do that easily and conveniently.

CompressIT creates one or more compressed Zip file(s) with all the files defined by a search criteria.

CompressIT comes with a simple and friendly interface that can be used by anyone with ease. Any kind of user, from complete beginners to professional can use this software without any effort.

It's not only easy-to-use, but also lightweight and resource-friendly. It's a really small tool that requires no installation - just download, unzip and you may use it right away.

Though simple and lightweight, it also provides some handy additional settings. You may, for example, choose to create single ZIP-files. You are allowed to choose whether to put the matching files in a single ZIP archive or to create separate directories.

All the subdirectories and their content may be selected to be included in the archive or excluded, as you wish.

Another available option is automatically deleting the files after they have been moved to an archive. They may be sent to the Recycle Bin or erased completely.

The created ZIP archive can also be automatically divided into several packets with a predefined size if you select the "Split archive" option. This option is especially suitable if the files in the archive are over 4 GB in size.

With the "path information" option you can define whether the program will write the file structure into the zipfiles or not.

File change options and handy command line parameters are also supported.

The program CompressIT is currently available in German and English, but more languages may be added as translating this software is easy for anyone.

Last, but not least, the handy little CompressIT is completely freeware.
