With a history spanning over nearly 80 years, comic books have had, and still do, a massive target audience whether regardless of age or genre. The digital era have brought them even more into the spotlight with blockbuster movies and series constantly being developed. What is CBR ?

Short for Comic Book Reader, CBR is a neat utility that allows users to read, manage and convert comic books with a choice of multiple formats. The application is quick to impress: looks good, runs fast and is quite intuitive.

CBR's ribon powered graphical interface makes the program easy and comprehensive to use. It is divided between Library, Ebook and Phone tabs to cover all aspects of the utility.

CBR uses a library to store all books in one place comprehensively; this ultimately provides easier and more convenient access to books making them available literally within a single click. Files can be added recursively from a given folder or simply one by one in order to populate the library.

There are a few features implemented to make book reading as comfortable and enjoyable as possible: you can view it in fullscreen, or automatically have it fit the width, height of the main panel. Use the right click to enable the magnifier (customizable size and scaling factor from the settings panel) and mouse scroll to turn the pages. Bookmark pages and quickly return to them with the Goto function. Rate your books according to your taste. Have them protected via a password to restrict access.

Another cool functionality is the ability to convert books between multiple formats. CBR itself supports a wide range of file type inputs like CBR, CBZ, ZIP, RAR, CBZD, XPS, EPUB, PDF. Images from within a book can be extracted into a given folder.

CBR requires no installation, simply extract the contents of the archive to a folder location and run the executable; that's all there is to it.

CBR is in its early development and already shows promising signs so make sure you follow this one. Its use is governed by The GNU General Public License making it completely free to use.
