A light, portable chess game allowing you to play against another human opponent or the computer. Has multiple features in a compact and intuitive environment. Free to use!
Editor's Description
The New AI is finally ready and uploaded. It is smarter and a lot faster than the old version. Play against the computer or another person. You can even make the AI play against itself Choose to play as black or white. You can take back moves, swap sides, get the computer to make a move for you and many other features. This is the only chess game written entirely in GML using Game Maker.
The controls are:
Moving a piece: Click with the mouse on the piece you wish to move. Valid moves will light up in yellow. Moves that are normally valid, but would leave your King in check are disallowed and will light up in red. Click a yellow square and the piece will move to that square. Click on an unlit square or another piece to cancel if you wish to select another piece.
If the square is occupied by an enemy piece, clicking on that square will take the enemy piece.
Game Buttons. These are on the right side of the board. Click on any of these buttons and a menu will pop up with various options. If the AI is running, the menu will not appear until the turn is complete. Click on the button and wait until the menu appears if the AI is running.
The buttons are:
Game menu: Use this to start a new game, save the current game or load an old game. There are three slots for games 1, 2 and 3.
Rotate Board; Click on this to rotate the board orientation to you can see the boards as if you were playing white or black.
Game Options; Use this menu to select game type. They are;
Human versus Human (ie, a person plays both sides)
Human plays white, Computer plays Black
Computer plays White, Human plays Black
Computer versus Computer
If you select a human to play white, the AI to play black and the game has not started, make a white move and the AI will automatically make the black moves. If you select AI to play white, the AI will start as soon as you make that selection
The last option allows you to sit back and watch a demo game with the AI playing both sides. Click on the options button again and the game mode will revert to human versus human. You will have to wait for the computer to finish its current move before this will happen. So click and then wait for the current move to finish.
If you want, you can swap sides or change the game into a human versus human or autoplay game during the game.
AI Options:
Take back a move; reverses the game one move.
Take back 2 moves; reverses the game 2 moves. This is handy if you are playing the AI, made a bad move and want to try another one. This will reverse the AI's last move and your last move leaving it your turn again.
Replay current game; This will rapidly show the current game's moves. This always plays with the board in the unrotated position, white side on bottom of screen.
Make AI Make a Move; This will make the AI make a move for you, even if it is your turn. You can also press the 'm' key to make the AI move.
