Many of us have played or are still playing backgammon, one of the oldest board games out there. Some of us lost countless days playing this game with our friends and now, with the help of technology, you have the possibility to play it directly from your computer. An easy and fun way in which you can do that is with the help of the Ariston Backgammon.
Ariston Backgammon, as its name suggests, is an easy to use piece of software that allows you to play the game of backgammon from your computer either versus the challenging AI or versus another human player. The goal of this game is to get all of your pieces into your home board and remove them (bear them off) from the table before your opponent does. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, this is the part where this game gets very interesting and fun, because getting all of your pieces into your home board isn't as easy as you might think. You (and your opponent) will have to use various strategies (in combination with the luck you have when rolling the dice) in order to delay him and be the first to bear off all of your checkers.
A nice feature that Ariston Backgammon provides you with is the fact that you won't have to manually perform all the movement after you have rolled the dice. You will just have to click on the checker you want to move and the program will automatically do that.
Furthermore, due to the neural net-based logic that Ariston Backgammon includes, winning against the AI (the computer player) can become quite difficult. Therefore, if you are a backgammon beginner, you should select the 80% skill level and advance to the 100% only after you have gained some experience.
Besides allowing you to play single games versus AI (you can use those for training) or a human player, Ariston Backgammon also lets you play tournaments (usually, a set of three matches). This way, you will be able to see if you are winning only by pure luck or because of your skills.
There are two direction in which the game of backgammon can be played. If you are used to the standard direction (home board on the right side) you don't have to worry, because Ariston Backgammon will allow you to switch directions with just a click of a mouse (even while playing a game).
